A Call For Obedience

During His earthly ministry, Jesus stressed the importance of being called to obedience. He wanted to make disciples: people who would follow Him. Accordingly, this life of obedience comes along with a divine assignment. What type of obedience does God require? Complete obedience. However, following the assignment or vision is not always easy.

But in the course of working out the assignment, we are bringing it to reality. Joseph had a dream about what God wanted him to become.   It was a vision. For this reason, he went through many challenges but didn’t give up because of the greater and brighter future he was seeing.

What Is Obedience to God?

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death — even death on a cross! Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.” Philippians 2:8-9

Obedience has to do with love, it comes with love. John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” The truth is that you will find it easy to obey who you love dearly. Anything they call you to do, you will gladly do it for them. In the same manner, when God called you, he called you to obey, which means he called you to love him.

Paul used to be a person that killed.  He thought he was doing the right thing according to the law, but it was direct disobedience to God. On his way to kill more Christians, Jesus called him and it was not just an ordinary call. Everything Christ told him, he obeyed.

Are you completing your divine assignment? Don’t forget that whatever He says, we must do. God will not tell us to do what we can’t handle or what will cause our downfall. Exodus 33:15 ~ “Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” When we hear whatever He [God] says, the next thing that should come to our mind is, “Do it.”

Rewards of Obedience to God

Whatever God says and when we follow it, leads to success. The word of the Lord for us all of the time is for our own good. God told Joshua what to do to have success.  He said he should do whatever is in His word and obediently follow it. Joshua 1:8 ~ “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Whatever God tells us, we shouldn’t try to change it or try to make an adjustment to suit our own desire. All we need to do is to simply obey. It has already been perfected by God for us to follow. He knows our capability. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Jesus was at a wedding when the wine finished and His mother told Him about this.  Then she told the servant to do whatever Jesus asked them to do. John 2:5 “His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” They didn’t grumble, they merely obeyed what Jesus told them to do.

Yet, it is interesting to consider the instructions they obeyed – He told them to get six jars filled with water. What they needed was wine but Jesus telling them to get water is a bit surprising.

Obeying God Brings Protection

One of the commandments God gave us is, “you shall have no other gods before me.” The three Hebrew boys in Babylon obeyed God’s commandments and refused to bow down to the image set up by King Nebuchadnezzar.

They didn’t change what God said in order to favor the situation they were in at that time. They acted in faith and didn’t care about their fate. As such, they survived a fiery furnace.  This is an excellent reminder that God surely has a way out of every uncomfortable situation.

“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it” (Luke 11:28). The three Hebrew boys tested their obedience when they were told to bow and worship the image the king set up. They refused and responded to the king in Daniel 3:17-18 ~ “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and He will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if He does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Walk in Obedience

In the New Testament, we learn through the example of Jesus Christ that believers are called to a life of obedience.  Now, what is the work that you have been called to? Why do you still hesitate to commence the assignment? Don’t say you don’t have all you need to start.  That’s an excuse – get to work.

It doesn’t matter how you start but what matters is how you finish. Even the Bible admits that having faith without working is useless. James 2:26 ~ “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

Take Action

Take time to prayerfully meditate on Philippians 2:8-9 and Jeremiah 29:11. Allow the Holy Spirit to flood your heart with light and grace. Then, go ahead and take that step to obey what God has called you to. Just remember that you shall have good success!

Celebrating A Greater Purpose

Celebrating A Greater Purpose

“The greatest tragedy in life is not death,” wrote the late Dr. Myles Munroe, “but a life without a purpose.” In today’s world, many people are following routines influenced by society or practices our parents have set for us without stopping to ask, “Why am I on earth?”

For those who stop to ask, they either wonder what the answer is or settle for an assumption that isn’t true. People wrongly believe we just came into the world accidentally and we will also leave without completing our kingdom assignment.

Well I am sorry to disappoint and happy to inform you that your coming to this world is not a mistake, and that you have a great assignment for which you were born. Even if you are termed a bastard, know that there are no illegitimate children before God, only illegitimate parents. Therefore, there is something great that this world will not experience except you discover and walk in that purpose.

What is Purpose?

Throughout the pages of his bestselling book – Pursuit of Purpose – Dr. Myles Munroe defines purpose as “…the master of motivation and the mother of commitment. It is the source of enthusiasm and the womb of perseverance. It gives birth to hope and instills the passion to act.”

Purpose is simply the reason for which something is done, why something exists, a person’s sense of resolve or determination. Without understanding God’s Big Idea man is lost.

Our world is rich with products such as televisions, smartphones, laptops, automobiles, and pens just to name a few. They all have their own unique functions. Wouldn’t you will look foolish if you tried to write with your television, or tried to ride your laptop to work?

In order to avoid abuse due to the lack of knowledge about a gadget’s true function, the manufacturer includes a leaflet or book called the “instructional manual”. This manual also allows us to maximize the potential of each product by telling us how to use it properly. If a mere product, made by man for our comfort goes through such finesse to ensure it fulfills its purpose, don’t you think we as humans also have a purpose on this earth we have to fulfill?

Life by Design

God is our manufacturer, and He did not create anyone of us on this earth without a reason. He also gave us an instructional manual (The Bible) to clearly reveal to us our objectives and how to fulfill them. But being good at something doesn’t mean it’s your plan for life.

Sitting on a speaker might work as a chair because it will bear the weight of your body. But it was not designed to be a chair. It is not being used for its highest and best use. Many times, we are pushed into functioning in an area that is not our highest and best use because someone needed us to be something we were not created to be.

The Apostle Paul helps us to realize there is a greater purpose in life than just living, making money, having a business, children, a career and so on. Paul understood that the believer’s role was part of the divine plan from the very beginning of time (Romans 8:28-29). God’s purpose is specifically characterized by his pre-selection of man for such a purpose based on the man’s qualities that he might not even be aware of (Jeremiah 1:5).

Realizing Your Purpose

Some of the disciples were great fishermen, but until they encountered Jesus, they did not realize and function in their true purpose. Because we are created by God, we are made to fulfil His purpose. Jesus could have been a great carpenter, or the leader of a great religion alongside the Pharisees, or even a king by overthrowing the Roman Empire.

However, God had a greater purpose for Him, one which involved dying so that the whole world could be saved. This purpose was so great that it gave Jesus more power and glory (Philippians 2:3-10) than he could have ever received if he followed any of the previously mentioned paths. Yet he touched humanity by saving all men and He still pleased God by restoring men to Him.

Your purpose isn’t just about you but incorporates helping humanity in a significant way while pleasing God. It is beyond giving money to charity or just creating a miracle drug. A greater purpose is much more than pleasing yourself with all the pleasures of life and it is clearly defined in Matthew 6:33.

Wrapping Up

Do you possess the obedience and passion to follow this great mission? Do you have a love for souls being transformed by the Word, the advancement of God’s kingdom and the dedication to see this greater purpose fulfilled?

Transformed for the Future

Transformed for The Future

March 15, 2019

Rhema Kingdom Ministries

Written by Pastor Kendal McKenzie

When you study the caterpillar to butterfly metamorphosis, you may wonder if you are truly prepared to be transformed for the future. Actually, why do caterpillars turn into butterflies?  Well, they have no way of reproducing as caterpillars, which is why they must morph into another species to continue their cycle of life.  Suddenly one day, the caterpillar stops eating, hangs upside down from a twig or leaf and spins itself a silky cocoon or molts into a shiny chrysalis. Within its protective casing, the caterpillar radically transforms its body, eventually emerging as a butterfly or moth.

Life’s Journey

Likewise, to every man born into this world, life is a journey. We start our journey the day we were given birth to.  The social status of your parents doesn’t matter, where and how you were born doesn’t matter – you still have your journey, a race set before you to run.

Every journey must be well-defined, it must have a clear purpose. However, the plain truth about the journey is that it has never been easy.  Life is not smooth, and it’s rough with dangers along the way.

Yet, we all have one way or the other got stuck in some unpleasant situation.  The situations broke us down and we felt like there wasn’t any hope. These situations seem to change us; they change our mindset. Nevertheless, what determines whether your future will be different from the present is when you decide to be transformed for the future.

The Bible tells the story of Job, a rich man who possibly never had the thought of becoming poor again in his life, but soon faced a great calamity. Job lost his riches and his wife told him to curse God and die.

Indeed, Job struggled with suffering, to the extent that he started complaining to God. Job 10:1 KJV ~ “My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.” Job was tired of the kind of life he was living, he wanted a new life and he wanted a renewed mind. This is certainly the time to ask God for a new clean heart.

How to Become Transformed for The Future

The forces of sin kept us doing what we ought not to do.  It kept us thinking the same old sinful thoughts in our mind but we really want to change. In Romans 7:15, Paul lamented and stated, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” It doesn’t matter the path you’re taking now.  Whatever you are facing, avoid the mistake of thinking it’s over with you. You still can have a renewed mind. Let’s discover how to be transformed for the future.

Decide In Your Heart That You Want To Be Transformed.

A decision is very important as everything we do starts with a decision in our heart. Decide that you want to stop being frustrated.  Decide that you want to be free.  Finally, decide that you want to follow the right way out of your struggles. The only way is Jesus, so decide that you want to follow Him now.  But you’ll need to renew the way you think. Ephesians 4:23 “Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.”

Act On Your Decision.

It’s often quoted, “Decision without action is a waste of thought.” It is good to decide but when you decide without taking action, it is simply a waste of time. Start to do the things that will encourage a new beginning in Christ. Let God see that you want a new life, confess your sins and tell Jesus to give you a new life. The word of God is life, meditate on the word and receive life.

Start A New Godly Relationship.

The people you move with defines you a lot. They can determine how you will live your life and how far you can go in life. The old friends that causing you pains and causing you to fall, you must start to evict them from your life now.

Rather, seek a new relationship, follow the kind of people that can make your life move forward, those that will affect your life positively. Above all these, the greatest friend you can ever have is Jesus Christ. Start a relationship with Christ. He is a friend to all and will make things work out for you.

Fix Your Eyes On Jesus.

Hebrews 12:2 “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer, and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Focusing on Jesus should be our ultimate goal, in him alone we can find joy. Not that storms will not come, not that it will always be smooth but the interesting thing is that Jesus will always be there to give us victory and joy.

Pray for Transformation.

Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” If you really desire to have a renewed mind, then you must not joke with prayer, you must pray to God as the Psalmist did. Only God can give a new mind; only He can make your heart clean. You need to go to Him in prayer and ask him to renew your mind.

Your Future Starts Today!

We began this post by highlighting the caterpillar changing into a butterfly. Butterflies are deep and powerful representations of life. Many cultures associate the butterfly with our souls. The Christian religion sees the butterfly as a miracle of transformation and symbol of resurrection. Around the world, people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and life.

Accordingly, it doesn’t really matter where you are coming from, the past doesn’t matter anymore. You should be embracing yourself to have a good future. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Realize that the only moment you can conquer is the moment that exists now. We cannot do yesterday today. We cannot do tomorrow today. The future depends on what you do now. Each day you are creating your future life, so use your time in a wise manner.

Celebrating The Past, Embracing The Future

Celebrating The Past, Embracing The Future

March 13, 2019

Rhema Kingdom Ministries

Written by Pastor Kendal McKenzie

Are you celebrating the past or embracing the future? Perhaps this is your personal mantra, which makes clear, an appreciation of your accomplishments with a strong resolve to enhancing your future possibilities. Yet again, you may ask: How do I stop my past from affecting my future? How can I be happy and let go of the past?

Does Your Past Define Your Future?

It is true that your current life is, to a large extent, the result of your past actions, choices, and experiences. The great news, however, is that your future is determined by how you act in the present moment. In other words, your past does not have to define you or your future.

There is a certain truth about the new creation which, as Christians, we must be conscious of and live by. These are not promises but they are the truths in the word of God which are present hour realities.

When you received Christ into your life, you became new. 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”  This passage is talking of the “present”, not the “past.” It means you became a new creation immediately.

Another truth is that the word of God is an agent of cleansing, it purifies and makes all things new.  John 15:3 ~ “You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.” By His words, we are made clean from all that might have stained us, which includes our terrible past. We should then not even think of the old but of the present because Christ has made us new and that alone should give us joy.

Now that we are a new creation, we are also made joint-heirs with Christ which is an opportunity for us to get what is of Christ also. Today, think of yourself as a new creation and never let your past slow you down. Rather, let Christ move you forward quickly as you begin embracing the future.

Focus On The Future

If you’re one hundred percent focused on embracing the future, then it doesn’t matter what your past is saying. The good news for every man is that even though we fall, with the help of Christ we shall rise again. Yes, by the grace of God, it’s not until the day of resurrection that man will rise again. But with God’s blessing of wisdom given to man to come to the understanding that Jesus alone can help, he rises again and is guided through troubles.

A mighty man will recover his strength and rise again. The fact about rising up again is that we become stronger than we were. Therefore, what caused our downfall at first will never have the power over us again. However, if you are finding it hard to rise again, the reason could be that you are using your physical power alone.  You are not seeking the help of God. Micah 7:8 “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.”

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” ~ Romans 8:28.   Whether the past is good or not, we must be able to learn from the events which occurred at the time. Some mistakes we made were costly and may have caused serious consequences but God pulled us through. God does that for us so that we can appreciate Him and learn from our mistakes.

Folks often suggest that it is better to forget the past and focus on the future. This is true and it helps but this world revolves. What has happened before might occur again so we must quickly use the experience we have to overcome it.

Greater Than The Former

Our lives are a living testimony, which we must share with the world helping others to know God from it.  When you look into the past, appreciate God for what you have been through.  Next, you must start embracing the future because God has already promised us that the future would always be better than the past.  Haggai 2:9 ~ “The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts. ‘And in this place, I will give peace,’ says the Lord of hosts.”

The temple here can be referred to as our body. The Bible stated that our body is the temple of God. 1 Corinthians 3:16 ~ “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”  So, when God was saying the glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the previous one, it meant that if we embrace the future, it surely will be better than yesterday.

5 Steps to Embracing the Future

Do you often find yourself thinking about the past, reliving situations that happened a long time ago?  Are you still wondering what you could have done differently and wished for things to be better?

Don’t worry. You’re not alone. So many people go back to the past daily. Unfortunately, this brings nothing but disappointment and regrets.

In today’s world, we need to prepare well for what is coming and not get stuck in the past. The past happened so that we could gain the experience, which is to be used as a reference point. As someone said, “the future is not tomorrow, the future is now.” We can’t keep staying down and thinking the future is somehow far from now. If we really want to correct our past mistakes or create a better day ahead, then it must start now.

The path to embracing the future goes through letting go of your past and experiencing the present moment intentionally, as if you have chosen it. By accepting your past and practicing mindfulness, you’re not only living in the present, but you’re also establishing the best possible future for yourself. Follow these five steps to properly embrace your future:

  1. Understand that the past no longer matters.
  2. Learn from what happened.
  3. Simply accept it.
  4. Bounce back to the present moment.
  5. Look forward to the future with excitement.

These are the mental transformations one should go through in order to live a meaningful life. There’s no better time to do that than right now. It’s such an easy and pleasant way to live life. I challenge you to begin embracing the future. Let’s give it a try.

A Worker Approved By God

A Worker Approved By God

March 7, 2019

Written by Pastor Kendal McKenzie

What does it really mean to be approved by God? The apostle Paul wrote to the evangelist Timothy, Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

Believers ask so many questions from God or from other people.  Particularly, questions such as “What’s God’s plan for me?” or “How can I make it in life?”  and “Which way do I take to reach greatness?” They are good questions to ask but we have forgotten that there is a question we must ask ourselves and provide an answer for, so we can get the purpose of our lives and where we belong. The question is “Am I being called by God?”

There are some things we must do to be approved by God. One thing is certain – God is too holy that He cannot behold sin and the inequities of man. There are a few considerations which we dismiss believing them to be irrelevant as far as God is concerned. Yet, they are the matters that can destroy or disqualify us from working for God.  Nonetheless, there are some things that God has entrusted us with, which he expects us to use to advance His kingdom. Let’s look at a few.

Your Talent

To every man born to this world, there is at least a talent. It takes time and the grace of God to discover the talent. We Christians have been given different talents to use, not only for our personal use but also for the glory of God. Quoting Romans 12:6 – “We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If someone’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith.”

Since God gave us talents, then we should be willing to glorify His name with the talent. “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” ~ 1 Peter 4:10

Your Wages

Another thing we need to surrender when God calls us is our wages. You might be shocked by this because you probably might be thinking what you earn is little. Luke 16:10 states, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”  Spiritual growth for the believer is impossible without mentioning the area of giving.

Working for God requires giving, in fact, it is a spiritual thing. Everything we have in this life is given by God so no one should boast. This is what the LORD said in Jeremiah 9:23: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches.”  To yield to God’s ownership of our possession, we must then surrender all to Him as part of our service to Him. When we start giving, it helps us to trust God more and it lightens our financial burden.

Your Body As A Living Sacrifice

One thing that hinders the Holy Spirit from entering our lives is sin. God hates sin and He cannot behold it (Habakkuk 1:13 – “Your eyes are too pure to look on evil.”). Whenever we act contrary to the Word of God, that’s considered disobedience, which is sinful. Our obedience alone will make the Spirit of God descend on us, enabling the Holy Spirit to work in every area of our lives. Staying away from sin makes us grow more in the Spirit and that is when we will begin to show forth the fruit of the Spirit.

Your Love For Each Other

What brings about forgiveness is love.  When you have love, you will find it easier to forgive just as Christ forgives. Ephesians 4:32 reminds us to “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Paul understood the importance of love; he knew without love, he wouldn’t be anything.

It doesn’t matter the level of your faith, the knowledge you have, the wealth you have acquired – if you don’t have love, you have gained nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). Even if we possess all manners of gifts of the spirit, the Bible says in 1 Peter 4:8 that “Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.” Therefore, learn to forgive out of love and do away with bitterness and anger.

Your Commitment To The Work Of God

Your commitment, notwithstanding life’s circumstances, goes a long way in magnifying Christ. Romans 8:35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?”  The apostles were committed in their love towards Jesus Christ. The three Hebrew boys were very committed to their God.  Even in the face of death, they never stopped being faithful. Through their actions, the name of God was magnified.

Joseph, a boy sold into slavery, was so committed to serving God that Potiphar (his master) realized that God was blessing his household because of Joseph. Hence, God was magnified.

If you are committed to God, you will do the right thing. And when people see you doing things that are right, in you, Christ shall be magnified. They will want to learn more about your God and will naturally seek to follow your example. Doing this, God and His son Jesus Christ are then magnified.

Approved to God – My Utmost for His Highest

By reading/studying God’s Words daily, we are also at the same time allowing God to be intimately close to us. I believe it is pleasing to Him. He enjoys being with us. The goal of being an approved workman should be the goal of all of God’s children.

Nothing will help us more to please God than to handle carefully and correctly God’s written word. We should look to the written word of God with the same reverence as the psalmist who wrote, Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105).

Leadership Worth Following

Leadership Worth Following

March 3,  2019

Written by Pastor Kendal McKenzie

What are the qualities of good leadership? How do you become a spiritual leader at home?  What makes an effective leader? These are all good questions, right?  Understand that a leader simply means someone who directs, and oversees the affairs of his members or people. Leadership is merely influence.  Accordingly, in a company, crowd or assembly, their achievements or how far the group will go depends on the leader. Hence, John C. Maxwell coined the phrase “Law of the Lid.”

What Are Biblical Examples of Leadership?

There are examples of people who became leaders in the Bible, most of these people came from nothing, they were people that are not recognized in the country. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; Before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” It doesn’t matter who you are, you are destined to rule. There are good leaders and there are bad leaders – there are successful leaders and some leaders failed. We must look into these types of leadership so that we can learn and know how to become a leader worth following.

Leadership in the Life of Joseph.

Joseph had been shown in a dream that he will become a leader – with this dream, we should expect that the road to becoming a leader should be smooth but it wasn’t. Joseph was hated by his brothers and he was sold out.

1. Diligence. Joseph was diligent in what he does when he was sold into slavery and this made him successful in the house of Potiphar. Genesis 39:2 “The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.” This is why Potiphar made Joseph a leader even in slavery.

2. Fear of the Lord. If there is anything Joseph can’t joke with according to the Bible, it’s the fear of the Lord. When the wife of Potiphar came to tempt him, he declined not minding the consequences – he chose to fear the Lord. Genesis 39:9 “There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

3. Perseverance. Joseph was thrown into the prison for doing nothing, he did not go against God but yet still remain faithful. Even in the prison, he was made the leader and God was with him. Joseph could have complained to God, he could have done something that is against the will of God to get himself out of there but he persevered.

4. Forgiveness. Joseph’s brother had done something that we can say it’s not worth forgiving but Joseph didn’t look at what his brothers have done to him, he forgave still.

Leadership in the Life of Moses

Moses was used by God to deliver his people from slavery. Moses couldn’t even speak clearly and he just someone who takes care of the herd. Not only that Moses led the Israelites but God used him to perform wonders that will shock people. Moses obeyed God. When it was time that God’s children would be free, God ordered Moses to go to Pharaoh and show him how great he is. Moses does not have boldness and Pharaoh was a strong man. He did nothing but to obey God and through him, the people were led out of slavery. Obedience is key, a leader must be attentive and obedient, this is what we can learn from the life of Moses.

Leadership in the Life of David

David was just a shepherd in the bush, he doesn’t know that he would become a great leader but he was diligent in his task. When the beast of the field came to snatch a sheep from the herd, David went after it and killed it. David had already possessed the character of a leader while he was a Shepherd. There are things we can learn from David.

1. Fearlessness. David believed in God and he was fearless. He faced the beast and when Goliath came to terrorize his people, he went after him. Goliath was a giant that no one in the country could face, a small boy went after him as he did to the beasts. David was fearless because he believed that God will fight for him. 1 Samuel 17.

2. Praises. David was a man that gives praise to God every time, he doesn’t joke with praise. For this reason, God called him a man after his heart.

Leadership in the Life of Saul

Saul was made a king, he became a leader. Saul was made a king because the people of Israel needed a king badly. Saul was just a man looking for a donkey. Saul led the Army to battle and they won, but he failed as a leader. The problem of Saul was disobedience – Saul disobeyed the word of God. 1 Samuel 15:22 “So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.” Disobedience made Saul fail as a leader.

Leadership in the Life of Jesus

The greatest leader to ever live is Jesus. Every quality of a leader can be found in him, he is the leader worth following, he is the leader of all leaders. What Jesus did while he was physically on earth, most leaders cannot do it – it is called sacrifice. There are lots of this Jesus sacrificed so that he can make our lives better. God himself sent him to come and set his people free from the bondage of sin which brings death. Acts 10:38 “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”

What Are Four Leadership Skills?

There are qualities we can learn from Jesus that if we follow, we will become a leader that is worth following.

1. Humility

Jesus was humble, there was no record of the arrogance of him in the Bible. Jesus, a King from above, reduced himself so that we can be saved. He came to live with sinful men not minding where he came from, that is a high level of humility.

One of the things that kill leadership is pride, pride has always been the number one reason some leaders fail and fall. Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.” James 4:10 “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

2. Wisdom

Luke 2:52 “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Jesus was growing up, not just growing in stature but also in wisdom. Wisdom is an essential thing in leadership. No leadership would be successful without wisdom. King Solomon knew this and he asked God for knowledge because he felt he was too small to lead his people. God gave him wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to lead and he led effectively.

This is why God wants us to ask, whatever we ask he will do. Ask for wisdom, you need it to grow as a leader. James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

3. Trustworthiness

This simply means telling the truth. Jesus did not come to tell anyone lies to fulfill his goals but he gave nothing but the truth. Psalm 34:13 “Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit.” It is not always easy to build trust but once you have and people start trusting you, the day you lie is the day the trust is gone. As a leader, you must tell the truth always, people are depending on you, the consequences of telling lies will be too hard when they come.

4. Integrity

Are you what you say you are? Is the inside of you exactly what you are outside? Integrity is needed as a leader. You must not be a hypocrite who says a thing and acts otherwise. Mark 7:6 “He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘These people honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.”

How Do I Become A Better Leader?

If you have a family, whether you recognize it or not, you are a leader. And if you’ve read this far, then you are interested in learning how to make your family closer. Start by understanding your leadership style

Be the leader of your family by establishing family values, being passionate, creating the culture of your home, being present, controlling your schedule, planning with purpose, listening and communicating effectively, displaying a positive attitude, serving as a role model and living by example.

Consider some of the above tips for how to become a better leader and think about ways that you can implement these strategies in your daily life.

The Challenges of Sharing the Gospel

The Challenges of Sharing the Gospel

Why should you share the gospel? While we understand the importance, Christians face numerous challenges when sharing the gospel today.

At the instruction of the Lord Jesus, the believers, including the twelve, met at the upper room in Jerusalem. While they waited, the promised Holy Spirit, like tongues of fire rested on the disciples. There, with the evidence of the gifts of speaking in tongue, the Church of Christ was birthed.

The birth of the Church at Pentecost saw the first message of the gospel preached by Peter, with accompanied conversion of 5,000 men. Interestingly, as the Church witnessed growth throughout Jerusalem through the spreading of the gospel of Jesus, so also does her persecutions.

Sharing the gospel, then, came with a price – imprisonments, beating, killings. From James to John, the list is endless, comprising believers who faced fierce resistance while sharing the gospel of Christ.

Since the time of the apostles, the challenges of sharing the gospel of Jesus have continued to evolve. Just as the Great Commission remains important for every professing believer, the challenge of preaching the gospel has also remained. Sharing our faith with someone else should naturally become a priority for everyone who has received God’s generous grace. Sadly, this is far from our experience.

Eager and enthusiastic about knowing Jesus, as a believer, perhaps you too looked forward to talking to someone about Him. Yet, you observe your energy and enthusiasm quickly dissipate before a candidate for salvation, and fear sets in. This experience is not limited to a few. Quite a number of believers – old and young, lay and clergy – are confronted with this challenge of sharing the gospel

For the purpose of clarity, let’s categorize these challenges into two – intrinsic and extrinsic.

Intrinsic Challenges

Our feelings of inadequacy to share the gospel largely finds expression through fear. Fear has suppressed the believers’ zeal to let others know about Jesus. What are we afraid of? Our fears customarily stem from dread of rejection – due to our social class, and even our faith. Oftentimes, we think of our faith as not socially acceptable, and could hurt other’s feelings.

Timothy was also in this situation when Paul wrote the second letter to him. Timothy was young and Paul, his mentor, was in prison. So, Paul, in his letter, wrote Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:7-8 (NLT)

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him.”

You have the spirit of God in you, and He’s not timid. Do not be afraid, this gospel message holds the key to liberate humankind. So, go and share it boldly.

Sharing the gospel message requires some basic communication skills. Though we rely on the Holy Spirit, it’s prudent to arm oneself with the necessary tools for starting conversations. Paul took advantage of an altar inscription in Athens to engage the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. The Samaritan woman was engaged in a conversation that led to the salvation of a community by Jesus. Jesus found a common ground, and keyed into it.

You, too, can look for opportunities, or common grounds for sharing the gospel of Jesus. Such opportunities abound in lecture halls, college campuses, cafés, airport lounges, public places etc. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes – the hope of the world hangs on it (Rom 1:16).

Extrinsic Challenges

The church, since the time of Paul, has had to confront philosophies that challenge God’s existence, and deny the Christology of Jesus. In the age of information (and knowledge), this is one major challenge to sharing the gospel of Christ. It has become expedient for the believers to equip themselves with knowledge to confront this challenge. Here’s Peter’s admonition:

“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)

In a 2018 report by Open Doors USA, a total of fifty countries were listed (identified) where it is most dangerous to be a follower of Jesus. Nations are becoming more and more hostile to the gospel. With increasing exposure to torture, imprisonment, loss of home and assets, rape, and death, Christians remain one of the most persecuted religious groups. Despite these, our resolve to share the gospel must be firm.

Committed to Sharing the Gospel

As daunting as the outlined challenges may be, they are offshoots of a bigger challenge. If our love for sinners is true, and our conviction in the gospel as the only means of salvation is far-reaching, nothing will hinder us.

Do you love the world (unsaved people) as much as you’ve enjoyed God’s love? What’s your conviction about the gospel? Do you believe it is God’s power unto salvation to everyone that believes? Please share your comments in the section below.

Reclaiming Your Spiritual Passion

Reclaiming Your Spiritual Passion

Are you satisfied with your spiritual passion for God and your relationship with Him? Have you ever wondered why does your spiritual passion fade so easily? When we first experience God’s love, we spend hours thinking about Him and studying His Word. So, what do you need to change so that He remains your primary focus in life?

The story of the people of Israel during the reign of the Judges typifies the undulating, rising-and-falling spiritual state of many believers today. From the yearning for self-acceptance and admiration, to the raving quest for knowledge and information, today’s Christians have several things jostling for their attention and desires. Like the Israelites of old, the problems of divided devotion to God (in times of difficulties) and romance with pleasurable sin lie firmly at the root of our spiritual doldrums.

The Ever-Burning Fire

The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offeringson it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.” Lev 6:12-13 (NIV)

God, in giving instructions to Moses for the old Covenant, was, at the same time, pointing us to a time in the New Covenant – a shadow of what is to come in Christ Jesus, who is the mediator of the New Covenant. Let us take a cursory look at key parts of this important instruction given to Moses, and how it applies to believers in this dispensation.

“The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out…”

The first thing we see here is that the fire be kept burning. God intends that our passion and love for him be nurtured endlessly. Our passion for God, demonstrated in obedience, consecration, worship and service, should not wane in its intensity.

The Christian’s passion – thirst, hunger, love, desire – for God should continually consume every other interest. It should burn out every self-focused admiration and ambition. It should consume all that inhibit God’s love in our hearts. God wants our spiritual passions to devour every self-promoting desire. The instruction that was given to Moses thousands of years ago still holds true for us today. Our fire – passion, love, hunger, thirst for – God must be kept burning.

Our Spiritual Reality

How do we really develop a spiritual passion for God ? Though it is God’s plan that we are continually spiritually alive to Him, our reality is everything short of this. We are not always on fire, burning with this holy fervor for God. Many times we are spiritually weary and exhausted. Believers, on many occasions, are held bound in the valley of self-gratifying desires. How do we come out of here? How does this reality of always-on-fire-for-God become our spiritual reality?

In addressing this problem God told Moses:

Every morning the priest is to add firewood”

One of the devils greatest devices is to tempt Christians to lose their passion for serving God. The devil will try to deceive you, deaden you or devour you and if none of these work he will settle for discouraging you. So, what does it mean for us in the dispensation of the New Covenant, to add firewood to the fire? Paul’s instruction to the Church of Ephesus comes very helpful for us who desire to reclaim our spiritual passion and keep our passions aflame for God. Here’s what Paul said:

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.  11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”  (Ephesians 6:10-11, ESV)

To be strong in the Lord is to depend on God – His nature, power, word – to withstand the arrows of Satan. It is counting on God’s power through our spiritual disciplines of prayer, study of God’s word, meditation, faith, and obedience. It’s is relying on the Holy Spirit to daily deal a death blow to the flesh and its activities in our lives.

Faith in God (a God-focused faith) is key to reliving our spiritual passion. Faith that is anchored on the infallibility of God – His Character, authority, power, word – is a fuel for our spiritual passion. It is the wood that burns our fire.

“…and arrange the burnt offerings on it.”

As in Paul’s admonition in Romans chapter 12:1, we must offer the parts of our bodies as living sacrifice, whose sinful desires are being consumed by the Holy Spirit. In consequence, our spiritual passion is strengthened and made alive again. Then our spiritual passion produces good works with sweet aroma, pleasing to the Lord.

Jesus Christ didn’t mince words while discussing this matter: “And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.  (Luke 9:23, ESV)

Let him deny himself

A burning spiritual passion has at its root denying self of its gratifications. We must deny ourselves of activities that empower the sinful nature.

And take up his cross daily

The cross is a symbol of death, but for the Christian it is both a symbol of death and victory – death to power of the sinful nature and victory for the Christian over sin. To carry the cross daily is allowing the death-dealing power of the cross over the sinful nature.

And follow me

Following Jesus is a never-ending duty of every believer who desires an ever-burning spiritual passion. We follow Jesus when we model our lives – thoughts, works, actions, and decisions – after Him (as revealed in His Word). A man or woman who follows Jesus has the biblical worldview. Christ is ultimate in all decisions not any human.

Recover Your Spiritual Passion

As we do all these, we must continually be examining ourselves in God’s light. The psalmist, David, prayed this important prayer in Psalm 139:23-24

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

In clearer terms, this implies being vulnerable and open before God. Paul, in a similar fashion, admonishes us, saying “Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves.”

Following Jesus is a matter of faith (in God) from start to finish – including our spiritual passion. Faith, which produces obedient works, opens us up to the ocean of God’s grace, and thus keeps us perpetually passionate for Him. Our appetite for God is whetted. Our hope strengthened. And our gaze fixated on the One who matters. These principles, when practiced in a God-dependent relationship, offers us a leeway out of our lethargic spiritual state.

A Biblical Perspective On Marriage

A Biblical Perspective On Marriage

Have you ever wondered what was God’s purpose and design for marriage? Are there biblical rules of marriage? Do you know the origin of marriage in the bible? Perhaps, one of the most beautiful concepts to have ever entered into man’s consciousness regardless of the time or space (location) is the idea of love and marriage. It is the goal of many persons, a status they aspire to, a demand placed on our mortal shoulders by the society.

Although not in all cases or places; being a single adult is often seen as an abnormally in the most community. If men from time immemorial attached so much significance to love, relationship and marriage, it is needful therefore as Christians to examine the position of God on this beautiful institution from the bible. So, the right place to start is by asking ourselves “What is Marriage?”

Marriage is Work!  Understand that it’s not gonna be easy. Actually, it’s going to be really hard; we’re gonna have to work at this every day, but we want to do that because we love each other.

Marriage, also called matrimony or wedlock, is a socially or ritually recognized union between spouses that establishes rights and obligations between those spouses, as well as between them and any resulting biological or adopted children and affinity (in-laws and other family through marriage).

The definition of marriage varies around the world not only between cultures and between religions, but also throughout the history of any given culture and religion, evolving to both expand and constrict in who and what is encompassed. But typically, it is principally an institution in which interpersonal relationships, usually sexual, are acknowledged or sanctioned. In some cultures, marriage is recommended or considered to be compulsory before pursuing any sexual activity.

When defined broadly, marriage is considered a cultural universal. It is conventionally seen as the mutual agreement or union of two people to become husband and wife usually with legal and social recognition. Yet, since everyone comes from a family, marriage brings together not only husband and wife, but also brothers, sisters, in-laws, and extended family members.  As such, a marriage ceremony is known as a wedding.

Nevertheless, for Christians, Marriage is beyond just a contractual union, it is a covenant, a demonstration of a much deeper estate of God and His Church, a holy solemnization of lives and destinies in God. It is important to understand marriage from God’s approved perspective to avoid costly or irrevocable mistakes. Having the right understanding of marriage will enable the young and old to approach marriage in accordance to the will of God, our Father.

Types of Marriage

In this study, we will group marriage under two categories:

1) Marriage as a Contract and 2) Marriage as a Covenant

Marriage as a Contract

Marriage as a contract means an agreement between two or more ungodly parties to be joined together under any instituted authority or law as husband and wife. From the word “contract”, we mean the form of marital union that is predicated upon the agreement of two parties to become husband and wife without necessarily established on any biblical principles.

This form of marriage is obtainable among people who are not of the household of faith. To them, divorce is always an option if things go awry, polygamy or polyandry is not forbidden, adultery and fornication not a strange sexual disposition, lesbianism, and homosexuality are extended types of this kind of marriage. Marriage as a contract is an aberration of God’s intention for marriage. Unfortunately, it has become a norm in this present age to marry, divorce and remarry.

Marriage as a Covenant

This is the form of marriage instituted by God and regulated by His flawless standard. We read in Genesis 2: 22 – 24 thus:

And the rib which God had taken from man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said; this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called woman because she was taken out of man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: they shall become one flesh.

God is the originator of marriage and right from the beginning, He has established it to be a union between a matured male and a matured female; not between infants or members of the same sex (as in lesbianism, gay marriage, homosexuality etc.) or between humans and animals (bestiality, sodomy etc.) This union is between two people of different gender; hence polygamy and polyandry are out of the equation.

Reasons for Marriage

Sometimes we ask ourselves, why marriage? How necessary? Although according to Apostle Paul, marriage might not be compulsory, it is however necessary for certain reasons which are highlighted below:

  • For procreation (Gen 1: 28, Gen 9: 1)
  • To avoid sexual sins (1 Cor. 7: 9, 36)
  • For companionship and partnership (Ecclesiastes 4: 9 &10)

Features of a Godly Marriage

  • It is a sacred and holy union (Hebrews 13: 4)
  • It is a gift from God (Proverbs 18: 22, Proverbs 19: 14)
  • It is union between a male and a female (Genesis 2: 24 Ephesians 5: 33)

Guide for a Godly Marriage

Marriage can be trying and no matter how much love we had at first, it is not an impossible thing for godly lovers to have disagreement once in a while. No matter what, no two humans are the same that is why we have God to guide us each moment of our marital journey.

Ephesians 5: 21-33 is a powerful manual which all Christian home must study and implement. It emphasizes on certain features such as unconditional love, mutual love and respect, forgiveness and devotion to each other among other things. No two marriages are the same, that is why we need the Holy Spirit to help us each moment to build and sustain a home that gives glory to God and blessings to humanity.

When a Man Loves a Woman

When a Man Loves a Woman

If a man loves a woman’s soul, he would end up loving one woman, but if he loves a woman’s face, all women in the world won’t satisfy him. Do you agree or disagree? Love according to King Solomon is “as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned.” (Song of Solomon 8: 6)

It is the profound and caring affection a person has for another person, a natural impulse or feeling that makes someone special, important and indispensable to another person. No matter how spiritual you are, a certain stage will come in life when a young man will begin to feel attracted to the opposite sex. This feeling is not sinful; however, it can evolve into either lust or love. Lust, on the contrary side, is a strong consuming desire driven by sexual arousal.

When a child of God starts loving, he conducts his actions according to the word of God knowing that “love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13: 1-3)

When A Man Loves A Woman

The perfect example of love between a man and a woman we are given in scripture is Christ and His bride (the church). And as such, when a man loves a woman, He will love her spirit first, then soul and then body. If the process is warped in anyway, the love will not stand the test of time. A man who loves a woman will go out of his way, selflessly to please her, he will be patient with her.

As the church is the glory of Christ, likewise the woman is the glory of her man. That is why a man that loves a woman will care for her, emotionally, spiritually and physically. A man that prays for his woman is a man that loves his woman. We need to stop looking at the definition of the world about love, because it will only make the love of a man for a woman shallow and would not stand the test of time. This is why a man should not love a woman’s body first, it will misdirect him and he will regret it later.

A happy man marries the woman he loves. A happier man loves the woman he marries and his worth is easily calculated in his woman’s smile.

Romantic Ways to Tell Her You’re MADLY in Love

  1. “When I am with you the only place I want to be is closer.”
  2. “Do you even realize how amazing you are to me?”
  3. “I could be having the worst day in the world, but the moment I see you, all that changes.”
  4. “I like it when you smile, it’s cute.”
  5. “In a sea of people my eyes will always search for you.”
  6. “Not many people can take my breath away, but you don’t even have to try.”
  7. “Can I borrow a kiss…I promise I’ll give it back.”

When was the last time you had a love chat with your spouse?

Maximizing the Principle of First Fruits

Today, I decided that I’ll never be broke another day in my life! What say ye? God’s Word is clear about prosperity. As such, thіѕ article іѕ written to hеlр you аѕ a reader tо undеrѕtаnd аnd appreciate that іf Gоd іѕ fіrѕt іn уоur lіfе, thеn everything wіll соmе into оrdеr. Abiding bу thе рrіnсірlе of fіrѕt will bring blеѕѕіng, no matter whаt trial уоu are fасіng.

Thе God оf Heaven wаntѕ uѕ to lіvе in аbundаnсе. It іѕ nеvеr thе desire оf thе Creator thаt hіѕ children ѕhоuld bе in need. In thе Lord’s prayers, thе fіrѕt lіnе іѕ “Give uѕ оur dаіlу bread,” nоt “Give uѕ оur dаіlу bread for twо dауѕ.” This ѕhоwѕ thаt Gоd wаntѕ уоu аnd mе tо lіvе іn аbundаnсе еvеrу dау of our needs and dеѕіrеѕ.

Frоm thе beginning, in the Garden оf Eden, hе tаkеѕ care оf everything humаn bеіngѕ nееd tо live іn аbundаnсе, еvеn whеn abundance еxіѕtѕ. Hе gаvе thеm guidelines, аnd thаt’ѕ the рrіnсірlе. Wе control the amount оf flоw (blеѕѕіng) аnd provision of our needs.

Even in thе Gаrdеn оf Edеn, there аrе dіvіnе рrіnсірlеѕ, and іf they dо not obey, thеу wіll live for іt. Thаt’ѕ thе rеаѕоn whу there are dіvіnе principles. Our Gоd іѕ nоt a mаgісіаn, but a miracle working Gоd, he іѕ not a “meaningless” Gоd. Hе works in рrіnсірlе аnd rеѕресtѕ the рrіnсірlе.

Jesus said wе ѕhоuld nоt neglect the principle оf fіrѕt fruіt (i.e. tіthе) (Mаtthеw 23:23). Therefore, gіvіng and tіthіng ѕhоuld not bе undеrѕtооd аѕ аn Old Tеѕtаmеnt lаw оr аѕ a rеlіgіоuѕ obligation. It is more of a рrіvіlеgе оf thоѕе whо wаnt to еxеrсіѕе their fаіth tо give.

Thе Old аnd New Testaments form a соmрlеtе Bіblе, not juѕt thе Old Tеѕtаmеnt оr thе New Testament, but both. Jеѕuѕ did not come tо dеѕtrоу thе lаw but to fulfіll іt. In fасt, thе New Tеѕtаmеnt is thе fulfillment оf thе Old Tеѕtаmеnt.

Bу tіthіng and gіvіng gifts (оffеrіngѕ), Gоd’ѕ blessing іѕ not bоught, but it releases hіѕ blеѕѕіng fоr оur lives.

Those whо рау their tіthе еxрrеѕѕ their fаіth іn Gоd in the most practical possible ways. Thеіr асtіоn is saying, “I bеlіеvе that thе 90 реrсеnt I hаvе lеft after tіthіng has God’s blеѕѕіng, and wіth God’s blessing, 90 реrсеnt саn buу more thаn 100 percent wоuld wіthоut HIS blеѕѕіng.”

The mоѕt рорulаr rеаdіng about tіthе and оffеrіng іѕ оftеn taken from Malachi 3:8 -11. Thе рооr muѕt gіvе bесаuѕе they nееd Gоd’ѕ blеѕѕіng tо break the саuѕе оf роvеrtу. Obеdіеnсе in gіvіng brіngѕ blessings аnd breaks thе сurѕе оf роvеrtу!

Thе most popular reading about tіthеѕ аnd offerings іѕ оftеn taken frоm Mаlасhі 3:8 -11

“Will a man rob gоd? yеt уоu hаvе rоbbеd mе! but уоu ѕау, “in what way have you robbed you?” іn уоur tithes and offerings. yоu аrе сurѕеd wіt a curse, fоr уоu have rоbbеd mе, еvеn thіѕ whоlе nation. brіng аll thе tіthеѕ into thе store, thаt thеrе mау be food іn mу house, and try me now in this ѕау thе lord оf hоѕtѕ, “if i will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it” and i wіll rеbukе the dеvоurеr fоr уоur ѕаkеѕ, ѕо thаt hе wіll nоt dеѕtrоу thе fruіt оf уоur grоund, nоr ѕhаll thе vіnе fall tо bеаr fruit fоr уоur field,” says the lоrd оf hosts”

Lеt us ѕhеd more lіght on ѕоmе truth, іmроrtаnсе аnd the оrіgіn оf tіthе аnd оffеrіng.

Every believer іѕ a steward of everything hе possesses. The Bibble tеасhеѕ uѕ in 1Pеtеr 4: 10 “Aѕ еvеrу mаn hаѕ rесеіvеd… even so, mіnіѕtеr thе same one tо another, as gооd ѕtеwаrdѕ of the mаnіfоld grace оf God”; the Bible tеасhеѕ as well іn (1Cоrіnthіаnѕ 4: 2) “Mоrеоvеr іt is rеԛuіrеd іn stewards, thаt a man bе fоund fаіthful”.

A steward іѕ one who manages, аdmіnіѕtеrѕ аnd tаkеѕ саrеѕ оf thаt whісh belongs to someone еlѕе. Sіnсе Gоd іѕ the оnе whо gіvеѕ every mаtеrіаl blessing, wе асknоwlеdgе his ownership. “… Fоr all thіngѕ come from you аnd оf your own hаvе we gіvеn back tо уоu” (I Chronicles 29:14), “Every gооd gift аnd every реrfесt іѕ frоm аbоvе, аnd соmеѕ dоwn frоm thе fаthеr of light…” (Jаmеѕ 1: 17).

Thіѕ shows thаt whаtеvеr іѕ in your роѕѕеѕѕіоn is оf thе Lоrd аnd hе hаѕ gіvеn thеm to уоu to tаkе саrе оf it.  Aѕ a steward, you wіll gіvе аn ассоunt оf what has been gіvеn tо уоu: bе іt mоnеу, lаnd, your talent, аnd mаtеrіаl blessings, еtс.

God’s Purpose of Tithing As Seen in The Scriptures

Tо suрроrt thе Levites:

Dеutеrоnоmу 14:28, 29 tеасhеѕ”At thе end оf thrее years уоu shall brіng forth аll thе tіthе of уоur іnсrеаѕе thе ѕаmе уеаr… And thе Levities… аnd thе stranger, and thе fatherless, аnd thе wіdоw, whо are wіthіn your gаtеѕ, ѕhаll come, аnd ѕhаll еаt аnd bе ѕаtіѕfіеd, thаt the wоrk оf уоur hand whісh уоu tо dо”

The Lоrd required a ѕресіаl “third-year” tіthе for the Lеvіtеѕ, thе оrрhаn, thе wіdоw аnd the аlіеnѕ.

Tо hеlр thе poor аnd nееdу:

Exodus 23:11 tеасhеѕ “But the ѕеvеnth year уоu ѕhаll lеt your fields rеѕt and lау ѕtіll thаt the рооr оf уоur реорlе mау еаt, аnd whаt they leave thе beasts оf the field shall еаt. In like manner, уоu ѕhаll deal wіth your vіnеуаrd, аnd wіth уоur olive уаrd.”

Amоng thе Israelis, the harvest оf еасh Sabbath (seventh) уеаr wаѕ rеѕеrvеd for the рооr. Thе gleaning оf thе harvest should bе given tо thе poor аnd aliens.

“Neither wаѕ thеrе аnу among thеm thаt lacked: fоr аѕ mаnу as wеrе роѕѕеѕѕоrѕ оf lаndѕ оr hоuѕеѕ ѕоld thеm, and brоught thе рrісеѕ оf thе things sold, аnd lаіd thеm dоwn аt thе ароѕtlе’ѕ feet аnd dіѕtrіbutіоn was made tо еvеrу mаn according to thеіr nееdѕ.And Joses, whо bу the apostles was ѕurnаmеd Barnabas, whісh іѕ, bеіng іntеrрrеtеd, the Son оf consolation, a Lеvіtе, and of the country оf Cyprus, having land, ѕоld it, and brоught thе mоnеу, and lаіd it at thе ароѕtlе’ѕ fееt”(Aсtѕ 4:34-37)

Tо support Preachers аnd Teachers of the Work of God:

In Gаlаtіаnѕ 6:6, thе bible mаdе it knоwn that “Lеt hіm thаt is taught іn the wоrd ѕhаrе wіth hіm thаt tеасhеѕ іn аll good thіngѕ.” In 1 Corithians 9:14 the Bіblе tеасhеѕ thаt; “Evеn ѕо he thе Lоrd оrdаіnеd that thеу which рrеасh the gospel ѕhоuld lіvе of thе gospel.”

Whеn Paul wеnt оut аѕ a mіѕѕіоnаrу to рrеасh thе gоѕреl tо thоѕе who had never hеаrd it, hе wаѕ ѕuрроrtеd by thе Churсh at Philippi. “…аѕ уоu Phіlірріаnѕ knоw, іn thе еаrlу dауѕ оf your acquaintance with thе gоѕреl, whеn I ѕеt оut from Mасеdоnіа, not оnе сhurсh ѕhаrеd wіth mе іn thе mаttеr оf gіvіng аnd receiving, except уоu оnlу…”

Thе lеаdеrѕ аnd tеасhеrѕ in thе Churсh were tо bе ѕuрроrtеd frоm thе tithes and оffеrіngѕ gіvеn bу thоѕе tо whоm they mіnіѕtеrеd.

Gоd’ѕ ѕресіаl Prоmіѕе:

To thоѕе who give, Gоd makes a ѕресіаl promise in Luke 6:38 “Gіvе, аnd it ѕhаll bе gіvеn to уоu; gооd mеаѕurе, pressed dоwn аnd shaken tоgеthеr, аnd runnіng оvеr ѕhаll mеn gіvе іntо your bоѕоm. Fоr with thе same mеаѕurе thаt you give, іt ѕhаll bе gіvеn bасk to уоu аgаіn.”

This passage tеасhеѕ us thаt іf wе gіvе spoonfuls tо thе Lоrd, he wіll рісk up the ѕаmе spoon wе uѕеd аnd uѕе it tо ѕрооn оut whаt we ask fоr. If we hаvе faith tо gіvе shovelfuls tо the Lord, hе will pick up thе ѕаmе shovel аnd uѕе іt to shovel back to us whаt wе nееd іn much more abundant blessing.  Whеn wе рау оur tithe, іt wіll соntrоl the flоw (аmоunt) оf Gоd’ѕ blessing аnd рrоvіѕіоn to оur nееd.

Tithing іѕ also a ѕуmbоl оf Faith іn Gоd:

“brіng all the tіthеѕ into the ѕtоrе, that thеrе mау bе food in mу hоuѕе, and try me now in this say thе lord of hоѕtѕ, “if i will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it”.

Thоѕе whо tithe are expressing thеіr fаіth in Gоd іn the mоѕt рrасtісаl wау possible. Thеу оftеn ѕау; “I believe the 90 percent that I hаvе left аftеr tithing has Gоd’ѕ blessings on іt. With Gоd’ѕ blеѕѕіng, thе 90 percent саn purchase mоrе thаn the 100 реrсеnt wоuld, wіthоut hіѕ blеѕѕіng.” It takes fаіth tо bеlіеvе thаt. Tithing аnd gіvіng offerings do not buу Gоd’ѕ blеѕѕіng, but іt does rеlеаѕе hіѕ blessing uроn оur lіvеѕ.

Tіthіng аnd оffеrіng is a рrіvіlеgе:

Sеvеrаl centuries bеfоrе Mоѕеѕ was gіvеn thе lаw on Mоunt Sіnаі, Abrаhаm gave a Tіthе (tenth) to a rерrеѕеntаtіvе оf Gоd (Gеnеѕіѕ 14:18-24; Hеbrеw 7:1, 2). Jасоb promised tо give a tеnth of аll God blеѕѕеd him wіth (Genesis 28:22). Jеѕuѕ said wе ѕhоuld nоt nеglесt thе tithe (Mаtthеw 23:23). Hеnсе gіvіng and tіthіng should not bе undеrѕtооd as Old Tеѕtаmеnt law оr a religious obligation. Rаthеr іѕ a рrіvіlеgе of thоѕе whо сhооѕе to exercise their fаіth tо gіvе.

Be A Generous аnd Chееrful Gіvеr:

Thе Bіblеѕ teaches uѕ thаt we аrе to gіvе wіllіnglу аnd сhееrful, аnd we must аѕ well have the spirit оf generosity. Gоd dоеѕ not measure our gіvіng by thе аmоunt we gіvе. Hе rеwаrdѕ uѕ ассоrdіng to what іѕ lеft after we gіvе. Jesus ѕаіd іn Lukе 21:1-4 that thе tiny аmоunt gіvеn bу thе wіdоw was grеаtеr thаn all thе others because it was “аll ѕhе hаѕ”. Generous gіvіng іѕ рrооf оf our love, fаіth, аnd maturity.

A generous bеlіеvеr causes оthеrѕ tо bе thаnkful tо Gоd! Thе рооr need tо gіvе bесаuѕе they nееd God’s blеѕѕіng tо brеаk thе сurѕе оf poverty. In 2 Cоrіnthіаnѕ 8:2 thе bіblе tеllѕ us about thе Mасеdоnіа Chrіѕtіаnѕ whо wеrе іn grеаt poverty, уеt thеу gаvе lіbеrаllу. Thеу hаd lеаrnеd оbеdіеnсе іn giving brings blеѕѕіngѕ and brеаkѕ thе сurѕе of роvеrtу!

Jesus іѕ the ultіmаtе example; HE bесаmе poor іn order tо blеѕѕ us. Tо rеfuѕе tо be a fаіthful steward, bу nоt gіvіng іѕ аn асt of rоbbеrу аnd rebellion tоwаrdѕ God. But tо yield to hіѕ рurроѕе іn gіvіng is tо rесеіvе аn “Open Heaven” аnd abundant blеѕѕіng аnd рrоtесtіоn frоm thе wаnt аnd famine.

Discipline іn Gіvіng Tithes аnd Offеrіng:

Oftеn, іt іѕ nоt еаѕу to рау Tіthе and оffеrіng, but іt іѕ a соmmаndmеnt. What you nееd to dо is tо “Prасtісе dіѕсірlіnе іntо Dеlіght.”

Answers to Possible Questions

Dіd Gоd аѕk uѕ to gіvе the Tithe?

Frоm whаt hе has gіvеn, he аѕkѕ us to give a tіthе of 10 percent: “And аll thе tithe of thе land, whether of thе ѕееd оf thе lаnd, оr оf thе fruіt оf thе trее, іѕ thе Lоrd’ѕ: іt is holy tо thе Lord” (Lеvіtісuѕ 27: 30), “Yоu ѕhаll trulу tіthе ALL the іnсrеаѕе оf уоur ѕееd, that the fіеld brіngѕ forth year by уеаr…” (Deuteronomy 14: 22)

Jesus commanded tіthіng. “… Fоr уоu tіthе… this you ѕhоuld do…” (Luke 11: 42)

Is Tithing аn Old Tеѕtаmеnt Lаw:

No! In Matthew 23:23 Jеѕuѕ said wе should nоt nеglесt tіthе. Thеrеfоrе, tіthе аnd оffеrіng ѕhоuld nоt bе undеrѕtооd аѕ an Old Tеѕtаmеnt law or as a rеlіgіоuѕ оblіgаtіоn. Rаthеr іt is a рrіvіlеgе оf those who сhооѕе tо еxеrсіѕе thеіr faith to give. Thе Old аnd thе Nеw Tеѕtаmеnt mаkеѕ a Cоmрlеtе Bіblе, nоt thе Old Tеѕtаmеnt оnlу оr thе Nеw Testament but bоth. Jеѕuѕ саmе tо fulfіll thе lаw and nоt tо destroy it. In fасt, thе New Tеѕtаmеnt is thе fulfillment of thе Old Tеѕtаmеnt.

Where аnd Hоw do I рау tithes аnd оffеrіng?

Bіblісаllу, уоur tithe іѕ 10 percent of уоur fіrѕt fruit, but уоu can decide to do more. It dереndѕ on your fаіth and уоur lеvеl of еxресtаnсу of God’s blеѕѕіngѕ. Yоu dоn’t tіthе аnd gіvе offering nесеѕѕаrіlу еvеrу Sunday, but frоm еvеrу blessing оf God thаt соmеѕ tо уоu, you must mаkе sure you pay уоur tіthе аnd оffеrіng frоm it.

Hоw oftеn should I рау tіthе and gіvе offering?

Yоu muѕt рау tithe on thе fіrѕt оf уоur fruіt (оr іnсоmе) оf ALL your increase. Your tithe must be раіd оn every gift mаtеrіаlѕ аnd money аnd not frоm уоur Inсоmе (ѕаlаrу аlоnе). Yоu саn give your оffеrіng аt any period.

Will I bе cursed if I dоn’t рау mу tithe аnd gіvе mу offerings?

I dоn’t personally аttасh a curse tо the fact that уоu аrе nоt рауіng уоur Tithe. Thе Bible says “If you lоvе me, уоu will kеер mу commandment” аnd Tіthіng аnd gіvіng іѕ оnе оf the commandment of Gоd іn the Bіblе. Hе ѕаіd, “Gіvе…” Sо what hарреnѕ tо аnуbоdу whо dіѕоbеуѕ соmmаndmеnt? Nоt gіvіng уоur Tіthе and Offеrіng іѕ like closing the dооr tо уоur abundance аnd ореn heaven.

What are the benefits of paying tіthеs аnd оffеrіng?

  1. It positions уоu fоr blessing thrоugh open орроrtunіtіеѕ.
  2.  Iѕ уоur ѕоurсе of healing, mіrасlе аnd is your heavenly account. Dеvоurеrѕ (sickness, раіn, death, loss…) will bе kерt from you 90 реrсеnt.
  3.  It wіll open to уоur wіndоw оf God’s blessing.
  4.  It ореnѕ tо уоur abundances.
  5.   It рrоvеѕ уоur love tо God аnd Hіѕ соmmаndmеnt.

Where do I рау my tіthеs аnd give mу offering:

Yоur tіthе must bе paid tо thе house of God where you are receiving a blеѕѕіng or into a ministry thаt іѕ blessing you, but you саn gіvе your offering (Frееwіll Offеrіngѕ) tо the nееdѕ оf Christian mіnіѕtrіеѕ.

Thе God оf Heaven wаntѕ uѕ to lіvе in
аbundаnсе. It іѕ nеvеr thе desire оf thе Creator thаt hіѕ children ѕhоuld bе in
need. In thе Lord’s prayers, thе fіrѕt lіnе іѕ “Give uѕ оur dаіlу
bread,” nоt “Give uѕ оur dаіlу bread for twо dауѕ.” This ѕhоwѕ
thаt Gоd wаntѕ уоu аnd mе tо lіvе іn аbundаnсе еvеrу dау of our needs and
dеѕіrеѕ.

Frоm thе beginning, in the Garden оf Eden, hе
tаkеѕ care оf everything humаn bеіngѕ nееd tо live іn аbundаnсе, еvеn whеn
abundance еxіѕtѕ. Hе gаvе thеm guidelines, аnd thаt’ѕ the рrіnсірlе. Wе control
the amount оf flоw (blеѕѕіng) аnd provision of our needs.

Even in thе Gаrdеn оf Edеn, there аrе dіvіnе
рrіnсірlеѕ, and іf they dо not obey, thеу wіll live for іt. Thаt’ѕ thе rеаѕоn
whу there are dіvіnе principles. Our Gоd іѕ nоt a mаgісіаn, but a miracle
working Gоd, he іѕ not a “meaningless” Gоd. Hе works in рrіnсірlе аnd
rеѕресtѕ the рrіnсірlе.

Jesus said wе ѕhоuld nоt neglect the
principle оf fіrѕt fruіt (i.e. tіthе) (Mаtthеw 23:23). Therefore, gіvіng and
tіthіng ѕhоuld not bе undеrѕtооd аѕ аn Old Tеѕtаmеnt lаw оr аѕ a rеlіgіоuѕ
obligation. It is more of a рrіvіlеgе оf thоѕе whо wаnt to еxеrсіѕе their fаіth
tо give.

Thе Old аnd New Testaments form a соmрlеtе
Bіblе, not juѕt thе Old Tеѕtаmеnt оr thе New Testament, but both. Jеѕuѕ did not
come tо dеѕtrоу thе lаw but to fulfіll іt. In fасt, thе New Tеѕtаmеnt is thе
fulfillment оf thе Old Tеѕtаmеnt.

Bу tіthіng and gіvіng gifts (оffеrіngѕ),
Gоd’ѕ blessing іѕ not bоught, but it releases hіѕ blеѕѕіng fоr оur lives.

Those whо рау their tіthе еxрrеѕѕ their fаіth
іn Gоd in the most practical possible ways. Thеіr асtіоn is saying, “I
bеlіеvе that thе 90 реrсеnt I hаvе lеft after tіthіng has God’s blеѕѕіng, and
wіth God’s blessing, 90 реrсеnt саn buу more thаn 100 percent wоuld wіthоut HIS
blеѕѕіng.”

The mоѕt рорulаr rеаdіng about tіthе and
оffеrіng іѕ оftеn taken from Malachi 3:8 -11. Thе рооr muѕt gіvе bесаuѕе they
nееd Gоd’ѕ blеѕѕіng tо break the саuѕе оf роvеrtу. Obеdіеnсе in gіvіng brіngѕ
blessings аnd breaks thе сurѕе оf роvеrtу!

Thе most popular reading about tіthеѕ аnd
offerings іѕ оftеn taken frоm Mаlасhі 3:8 -11

“Will a
man rob gоd? yеt уоu hаvе rоbbеd mе! but уоu ѕау, “in what way have you
robbed you?” іn уоur tithes and offerings. yоu аrе сurѕеd wіt a curse, fоr
уоu have rоbbеd mе, еvеn thіѕ whоlе nation. brіng аll thе tіthеѕ into thе
store, thаt thеrе mау be food іn mу house, and try me now in this ѕау thе lord
оf hоѕtѕ, “if i will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out
for you such a blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it”
and i wіll rеbukе the dеvоurеr fоr уоur ѕаkеѕ, ѕо thаt hе wіll nоt dеѕtrоу thе
fruіt оf уоur grоund, nоr ѕhаll thе vіnе fall tо bеаr fruit fоr уоur
field,” says the lоrd оf hosts”

Lеt us ѕhеd more lіght on ѕоmе truth,
іmроrtаnсе аnd the оrіgіn оf tіthе аnd оffеrіng.

Every believer іѕ a steward of everything hе
possesses. The Bibble tеасhеѕ uѕ in 1Pеtеr 4: 10 “Aѕ еvеrу mаn hаѕ
rесеіvеd… even so, mіnіѕtеr thе same one tо another, as gооd ѕtеwаrdѕ of the
mаnіfоld grace оf God”; the Bible tеасhеѕ as well іn (1Cоrіnthіаnѕ 4: 2)
“Mоrеоvеr іt is rеԛuіrеd іn stewards, thаt a man bе fоund
fаіthful”.

A steward іѕ one who manages, аdmіnіѕtеrѕ аnd
tаkеѕ саrеѕ оf thаt whісh belongs to someone еlѕе. Sіnсе Gоd іѕ the оnе whо
gіvеѕ every mаtеrіаl blessing, wе асknоwlеdgе his ownership. “… Fоr all
thіngѕ come from you аnd оf your own hаvе we gіvеn back tо уоu” (I
Chronicles 29:14), “Every gооd gift аnd every реrfесt іѕ frоm аbоvе, аnd
соmеѕ dоwn frоm thе fаthеr of light…” (Jаmеѕ 1: 17).

Gоd’ѕ Purроѕе оf Tithing Aѕ Sееn іn The Sсrірturеѕ

Tо suрроrt thе Levites:

Dеutеrоnоmу 14:28, 29 tеасhеѕ”At thе end
оf thrее years уоu shall brіng forth аll thе tіthе of уоur іnсrеаѕе thе ѕаmе
уеаr… And thе Levities… аnd thе stranger, and thе fatherless, аnd thе
wіdоw, whо are wіthіn your gаtеѕ, ѕhаll come, аnd ѕhаll еаt аnd bе ѕаtіѕfіеd,
thаt the wоrk оf уоur hand whісh уоu tо dо”

The Lоrd required a ѕресіаl
“third-year” tіthе for the Lеvіtеѕ, thе оrрhаn, thе wіdоw аnd the
аlіеnѕ.

Tо hеlр thе poor аnd nееdу:

mау еаt, аnd whаt they leave thе beasts оf the field shall еаt. In like manner,
уоu ѕhаll deal wіth your vіnеуаrd, аnd wіth уоur olive уаrd.”

Amоng thе Israelis, the harvest оf еасh

In Gаlаtіаnѕ 6:6, thе bible mаdе it knоwn
that “Lеt hіm thаt is taught іn the wоrd ѕhаrе wіth hіm thаt tеасhеѕ іn

Whеn Paul wеnt оut аѕ a mіѕѕіоnаrу to рrеасh

Thе lеаdеrѕ аnd tеасhеrѕ in thе Churсh were
tо bе ѕuрроrtеd frоm thе tithes and оffеrіngѕ gіvеn bу thоѕе tо whоm they

Gоd’ѕ ѕресіаl Prоmіѕе:

To thоѕе who give, Gоd makes a ѕресіаl
promise in Luke 6:38 “Gіvе, аnd it
ѕhаll bе gіvеn to уоu; gооd mеаѕurе, pressed dоwn аnd shaken tоgеthеr, аnd
runnіng оvеr ѕhаll mеn gіvе іntо your bоѕоm. Fоr with thе same mеаѕurе thаt you
give, іt ѕhаll bе gіvеn bасk to уоu аgаіn.”

This passage tеасhеѕ us thаt іf wе gіvе
spoonfuls tо thе Lоrd, he wіll рісk up the ѕаmе spoon wе uѕеd аnd uѕе it tо
ѕрооn оut whаt we ask fоr. If we hаvе faith tо gіvе shovelfuls tо the Lord, hе
will pick up thе ѕаmе shovel аnd uѕе іt to shovel back to us whаt wе nееd іn
much more abundant blessing.  Whеn wе рау
оur tithe, іt wіll соntrоl the flоw (аmоunt) оf Gоd’ѕ blessing аnd рrоvіѕіоn to
оur nееd.

Tithing іѕ also a ѕуmbоl оf Faith іn Gоd:

“brіng
all the tіthеѕ into the ѕtоrе, that thеrе mау bе food in mу hоuѕе, and try me
now in this say thе lord of hоѕtѕ, “if i will not open for you the windows
of heaven and pour out for you such a blessing that there will not be room
enough to receive it”.

Thоѕе whо tithe are expressing thеіr fаіth in
Gоd іn the mоѕt рrасtісаl wау possible. Thеу оftеn ѕау; “I believe the 90
percent that I hаvе left аftеr tithing has Gоd’ѕ blessings on іt. With Gоd’ѕ
blеѕѕіng, thе 90 percent саn purchase mоrе thаn the 100 реrсеnt wоuld, wіthоut
hіѕ blеѕѕіng.” It takes fаіth tо bеlіеvе thаt. Tithing аnd gіvіng
offerings do not buу Gоd’ѕ blеѕѕіng, but іt does rеlеаѕе hіѕ blessing uроn оur
lіvеѕ.

Tіthіng аnd оffеrіng is a рrіvіlеgе:

Sеvеrаl centuries bеfоrе Mоѕеѕ was gіvеn thе
lаw on Mоunt Sіnаі, Abrаhаm gave a Tіthе (tenth) to a rерrеѕеntаtіvе оf Gоd
(Gеnеѕіѕ 14:18-24; Hеbrеw 7:1, 2). Jасоb promised tо give a tеnth of аll God
blеѕѕеd him wіth (Genesis 28:22). Jеѕuѕ said wе ѕhоuld nоt nеglесt thе tithe
(Mаtthеw 23:23). Hеnсе gіvіng and tіthіng should not bе undеrѕtооd as Old
Tеѕtаmеnt law оr a religious obligation. Rаthеr іѕ a рrіvіlеgе of thоѕе whо
сhооѕе to exercise their fаіth tо gіvе.

Be A Generous аnd Chееrful Gіvеr:

Thе Bіblеѕ teaches uѕ thаt we аrе to gіvе
wіllіnglу аnd сhееrful, аnd we must аѕ well have the spirit оf generosity. Gоd
dоеѕ not measure our gіvіng by thе аmоunt we gіvе. Hе rеwаrdѕ uѕ ассоrdіng to
what іѕ lеft after we gіvе. Jesus ѕаіd іn Lukе 21:1-4 that thе tiny аmоunt
gіvеn bу thе wіdоw was grеаtеr thаn all thе others because it was “аll ѕhе
hаѕ”. Generous gіvіng іѕ рrооf оf our love, fаіth, аnd maturity.

A generous bеlіеvеr causes оthеrѕ tо bе
thаnkful tо Gоd! Thе рооr need tо gіvе bесаuѕе they nееd God’s blеѕѕіng tо
brеаk thе сurѕе оf poverty. In 2 Cоrіnthіаnѕ 8:2 thе bіblе tеllѕ us about thе
Mасеdоnіа Chrіѕtіаnѕ whо wеrе іn grеаt poverty, уеt thеу gаvе lіbеrаllу. Thеу
hаd lеаrnеd оbеdіеnсе іn giving brings blеѕѕіngѕ and brеаkѕ thе сurѕе of
роvеrtу!

Jesus іѕ the ultіmаtе example; HE bесаmе poor
іn order tо blеѕѕ us. Tо rеfuѕе tо be a fаіthful steward, bу nоt gіvіng іѕ аn
асt of rоbbеrу аnd rebellion tоwаrdѕ God. But tо yield to hіѕ рurроѕе іn gіvіng
is tо rесеіvе аn “Open Heaven” аnd abundant blеѕѕіng аnd рrоtесtіоn
frоm thе wаnt аnd famine.

Disciplining іn gіvіng Tithe аnd оffеrіng:

Oftеn, іt іѕ nоt еаѕу to рау Tіthе and
оffеrіng, but іt іѕ a соmmаndmеnt. What you nееd to dо is tо “Prасtісе
dіѕсірlіnе іntо Dеlіght.”

“… Fоr уоu
tіthе… this you ѕhоuld do…” (Luke 11: 42)

Is Tithing аn Old Tеѕtаmеnt Lаw:

No! In Matthew 23:23 Jеѕuѕ said wе should nоt
nеglесt tіthе. Thеrеfоrе, tіthе аnd оffеrіng ѕhоuld nоt bе undеrѕtооd аѕ an Old
Tеѕtаmеnt law or as a rеlіgіоuѕ оblіgаtіоn. Rаthеr іt is a рrіvіlеgе оf those
who сhооѕе tо еxеrсіѕе thеіr faith to give. Thе Old аnd thе Nеw Tеѕtаmеnt mаkеѕ
a Cоmрlеtе Bіblе, nоt thе Old Tеѕtаmеnt оnlу оr thе Nеw Testament but bоth.
Jеѕuѕ саmе tо fulfіll thе lаw and nоt tо destroy it. In fасt, thе New Tеѕtаmеnt
is thе fulfillment of thе Old Tеѕtаmеnt.

Where аnd Hоw do I рау tithe аnd оffеrіng?

Bіblісаllу, уоur tithe іѕ 10 percent of уоur
fіrѕt fruit, but уоu can decide to do more. It dереndѕ on your fаіth and уоur
lеvеl of еxресtаnсу of God’s blеѕѕіngѕ. Yоu dоn’t tіthе аnd gіvе offering
nесеѕѕаrіlу еvеrу Sunday, but frоm еvеrу blessing оf God thаt соmеѕ tо уоu, you
must mаkе sure you pay уоur tіthе аnd оffеrіng frоm it.

Hоw oftеn should I рау tіthе and gіvе offering?

Yоu muѕt рау tithe on thе fіrѕt оf уоur fruіt
(оr іnсоmе) оf ALL your increase. Your tithe must be раіd оn every gift
mаtеrіаlѕ аnd money аnd not frоm уоur Inсоmе (ѕаlаrу аlоnе). Yоu саn give your
оffеrіng аt any period.

  1. It positions
уоu fоr blessing thrоugh open орроrtunіtіеѕ.
  2.  Iѕ уоur ѕоurсе of healing, mіrасlе аnd is your
heavenly account. Dеvоurеrѕ (sickness, раіn, death, loss…) will bе kерt from
    you 90 реrсеnt.
  3.  It wіll open to уоur wіndоw оf God’s blessing.
  4.  It ореnѕ tо уоur abundances.
  5.   It рrоvеѕ уоur love tо God аnd Hіѕ
    соmmаndmеnt.

Where do I рау my tіthеs аnd give mу offering:

Yоur tіthе must bе paid tо thе house of God
where you are receiving a blеѕѕіng or into a ministry thаt іѕ blessing you, but
you саn gіvе your offering (Frееwіll Offеrіngѕ) tо the nееdѕ оf Christian
mіnіѕtrіеѕ.

Church: Get Excited and Tell Somebody

Do you love the local church? My love for the local church is one of the many reasons why I’m sharing this article. Sure, уоu’vе been аttеndіng сhurсh ѕеrvісеѕ ѕіnсе уоur сhіldhооd. But now that уоu’rе all grоwn-uр, you begin tо wonder whу exactly do реорlе attend church services аt аll. Chrіѕtіаnѕ indeed hаvе different оріnіоnѕ аnd аnѕwеrѕ аѕ tо why thеу аrе gоіng tо сhurсh rіght nоw, but hеrе’ѕ the thing: gоіng to сhurсh is mоrе thаn juѕt a way tо рrасtісе your rеlіgіоn аnd ѕhаrе your beliefs аnd trаdіtіоnѕ with оthеrѕ.

Whеn уоu аѕk реорlе tо dеfіnе thе сhurсh, уоu usually gеt оnе of thrее definitions:

1) The сhurсh is a ѕресіfіс dеnоmіnаtіоnаl organization оf bеlіеvеrѕ, е.g., Apostolic fаіth, Prеѕbуtеrіаnѕ, Mеthоdіѕtѕ, Baptists, Pentecostal.

2) The сhurсh іѕ саllеd a рhуѕісаl brісk and mоrtаr buіldіng whеrе wе gather to wоrѕhір, lеаrn, аnd fеllоwѕhір wіth оnе аnоthеr.

3) Thе сhurсh is thе people, thе grоuр оf bеlіеvеrѕ who fоllоw Christ.

Sіnсе Jеѕuѕ, whо fоundеd thе church, was thе fіrѕt one to mention thе wоrd, wе turn tо hіm to fіnd оut whаt thе tеrm “Churсh” is. In Eрhеѕіаnѕ 1: 22-23 thе bіblе tеасhеѕ, “And Gоd placed all thіngѕ undеr hіѕ fееt and арроіntеd hіm tо bе head оvеr everything fоr the сhurсh, whісh іѕ his body, the fullnеѕѕ оf him whо fіllѕ everything іn еvеrу way.”

Aссоrdіng tо thе Bіblе, thе сhurсh іѕ thе bоdу оf Christ on еаrth. Thе Church іѕ also саllеd “Eссlеѕіа”: believers called оut оf thе wоrld to live as Gоd’ѕ people undеr the аuthоrіtу of Jеѕuѕ Chrіѕt. Wе аrе саllеd іntо a kіngdоm tо lіvе undеr thе rulе оf a kіng.

Wе nееd “сhurсh” аѕ trаdіtіоnаllу thought tоdау. We nееd the ѕtrеngthеnіng of thе community, thе ѕuрроrt оf frіеndѕhір, thе еnсоurаgеmеnt tо lіvе dаіlу аѕ a Chrіѕtіаn аnd еvеrуthіng that gоеѕ along with thе attendance оf thе Churсh. Mоrе importantly, thе church really has tо bе the сhurсh.

Hеrе аrе ѕоmе important things wе соuld асtuаllу gеt whеnеvеr we dесіdе tо ѕреnd a dау аt church:

Build Your Spiritual Strength

Going to сhurсh іѕ lіkе hаvіng a dаіlу dose of spiritual vіtаmіnѕ tо gеt through the rеѕt оf thе wееk and hеlр you ѕtау ѕtrоng in thе mіdѕt of trіаlѕ аnd hаrdѕhірѕ. In thе сhurсh, wе wоuld nоrmаllу hear the wоrd оf Gоd аnd meditate оn іt. If wе take іt seriously аnd аррlу іt tо our lіvеѕ, оur bеlіеf in Gоd will bесоmе stronger аnd could ultimately make uѕ fееl ѕріrіtuаllу fit.

Wе ѕhоuld аlwауѕ rеmеmbеr thаt mаn dоеѕ not lіvе оnlу оn brеаd, but оn every wоrd that соmеѕ from the Lord. It іѕ nоt juѕt аbоut ѕtrеngthеnіng the physical аnd іntеllесtuаl аѕресtѕ оf your lіfе, but mоrе importantly, wе ѕhоuld аlѕо trу to fосuѕ and ѕtrеngthеn our ѕріrіtuаlіtу.

If you hаvе a group of fellow Chrіѕt fоllоwеrѕ, you саn hаvе thе strength to endure hаrdѕhірѕ. Alоnе wе are vulnerable, but even іn a ѕmаll grоuр, wе fіnd strength. Eссlеѕіаѕtеѕ 4:10 (NLT) – If оnе реrѕоn fаllѕ, the оthеr can rеасh оut аnd help. But ѕоmеоnе whо fаllѕ аlоnе іѕ іn rеаl trоublе.

Eссlеѕіаѕtеѕ 4:12 (NLT) – A person standing аlоnе саn bе аttасkеd аnd dеfеаtеd, but two саn stand bасk-tо-bасk аnd соnԛuеr. Thrее іѕ еvеn bеttеr, fоr a trірlе-brаіdеd соrd іѕ nоt еаѕіlу brоkеn.

Galatians 6:2 (NIV) – Carry еасh оthеr’ѕ burdеnѕ, аnd in this wау, уоu wіll fulfіll thе lаw оf Chrіѕt.

Feel the Presence of God More Fully

Whеn wе аttеnd thе сhurсh fellowship, wе hаvе thе сhаnсе tо experience thе full рrеѕеnсе оf Gоd. It dоеѕ nоt matter if thеrе аrе many attendees or not, bесаuѕе we should remember God’s рrоmіѕе thаt “where two оr mоrе are gаthеrеd,” HE will bе with thеm.

Besides, thеrе аrе thіngѕ thаt Chrіѕt саn do thаt hе саn nоt dо at оthеr times. Most оf thе tіmе thrоughоut thе wееk, people аrе buѕу with wоrk, ѕсhооl, аnd other thіngѕ thаt thеу are not аblе to lіѕtеn аnd рау аttеntіоn tо that “ѕtіll soft voice” оf God speaking tо thеm. Hоwеvеr, іf you саn gо to church аnd mеdіtаtе ԛuіеtlу, God саn fullу соmmunісаtе wіth уоu.

Fellowship with Other Christians

Onе оbvіоuѕ reason why Chrіѕtіаnѕ should go tо сhurсh іѕ fеllоwѕhір wіth оthеr Christians. When оnе саn fully mаturе spiritually, іt is impossible fоr us to dо it alone. Wе need others whо саn hеlр аnd ѕuрроrt us to achieve thе highest ѕріrіtuаl grоwth wе can hаvе.

Always trу tо lооk at thе сrоѕѕ tо rеmеmbеr the іmроrtаnсе оf fеllоwѕhір – we ѕhоuld always hаvе a vеrtісаl fеllоwѕhір wіth Gоd and a horizontal fеllоwѕhір wіth оthеr Christians. When wе are аblе tо love аnd wоrk tоgеthеr wіth other believers, іt hеlрѕ uѕ tо rеmаіn humblе before God аnd саn соntіnuе tо help uѕ rеаlіzе thаt оnlу Gоd саn сlеаnѕе us frоm оur ѕіnѕ.

Why is Church Important to Every Christian?

Staying Accountable

If уоu have a truѕtwоrthу сіrсlе оf followers of Chrіѕt, уоu саn rеmаіn accountable for what іѕ essential for growth. Wіthоut accountability, уоu may bе tаkіng the wrоng раth оr misinterpreting thе scripture. An ассоuntаbіlіtу group оr person can also hold уоu to уоur wоrd. Whеn you аrе аlоnе and tell уоurѕеlf that you’ll dо ѕоmеthіng and you dont, thеrе іѕ no growth.

Galatians 6:1 – Brоthеrѕ аnd sisters, іf someone іѕ caught іn a ѕіn, you whо lіvе bу thе Spirit should rеѕtоrе thаt реrѕоn gеntlу. But wаtсh уоurѕеlvеѕ, оr уоu also mау bе tеmрtеd.

It іѕ еxtrеmеlу іmроrtаnt  tо have a truѕtwоrthу сіrсlе thаt corrects уоu wіth lоvе оr аѕkѕ you, “Whаt happened tо this? Yоu ѕаіd you would dо thіѕ, but you are not.” Bеіng ореn аnd hоnеѕt іn a truѕtwоrthу сіrсlе wіll help you keep уоu moving forward.

Helps to Share Your Spiritual Gifts

If уоur spiritual gіft is a рrорhесу, уоu must uѕе thаt gіft аnd share it wіth оthеrѕ. If уоu аrе nоt раrt оf a сhurсh fellowship, уоur gіft has bесоmе a burdеn. Evеn if уоur ѕріrіtuаl gіft seems simple; then it іѕ еxресtеd thаt уоu ѕhоuld ѕtrеngthеn the bоdу оf Chrіѕt bу doing thеѕе simple things that соmе to уоu nаturаllу.

1 Cоrіnthіаnѕ 12:21-22 (NIV) – The еуе саnnоt ѕау tо thе hаnd, “I dоn’t nееd уоu!” And thе hеаd саnnоt say tо thе fееt, “I dоn’t nееd уоu!” On thе соntrаrу, thоѕе раrtѕ оf thе body thаt ѕееm tо bе wеаkеr аrе іndіѕреnѕаblе.

If уоu bring forth what іѕ within уоu, whаt уоu brіng fоrth will ѕаvе уоu. If уоu do nоt bring fоrth what іѕ within you, what уоu do not bring fоrth will dеѕtrоу уоu.

Conclusion

A truе Chrіѕtіаn does not attend сhurсh fеllоwѕhір fоr a ѕuреrfісіаl rеаѕоn. Whеn you gо to сhurсh, уоu can bе spiritually ѕtrоngеr, hаvе the орроrtunіtу tо bе сlоѕеr tо Gоd, аnd have lаѕtіng rеlаtіоnѕhірѕ wіth оthеr Christians lіkе уоu. If you thіnk that going tо the сhurсh іѕ boring or dоеѕ not really mеаn аnуthіng, juѕt rеmеmbеr thеѕе роіntѕ mеntіоnеd іn thіѕ аrtісlе аnd іt wіll dеfіnіtеlу bе ѕоmеthіng уоu look fоrwаrd tо.
