For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” ~ Romans 8:5-6
To every man born into this world, life is a journey. We start our journey the day we were given birth to. The fact is that, it doesn’t matter the position your parents are or how you were given birth to. You still have your journey, a race set before you to run. You will get to a point in life when you start becoming conscious of your mind, the consequences of your thought, and your heart. Every journey must be well-defined and it must have a purpose. A plain truth about the journey is that it has never been easy. Life is not smooth and it’s rough with dangers on the way. We all have one way or the other got stuck in some unpleasant situations before – the situations break us, we were down and felt like no hope anymore.
These situations seem to change us, and they sure can change our mindset. We start thinking of possible solutions to problems and while doing this, different thoughts come in. But which one are we following, which one is resounding in our mind?
Job, a rich man that could never have the thought of becoming poor again in his life, suddenly faced a great calamity. Job faced what is far more deadly than death itself – he could have easily killed himself. He lost his riches then his wife told him to curse God and die.
Indeed, Job struggled with suffering, to the extent that he started complaining to God. Job 10:1 KJV – “My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.” Job was tired of the kind of life he was living. He wanted a new life, he wanted a renewed mind. This is your time to ask God for a new heart, a clean one. When you are renewed in your mind in accordance with God, you will start acting the way God wants you to.
The forces of sin kept us doing what we ought not to do. It kept us having this same old sinful thought in our mind and we really want it to change. Paul lamented, “For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” (Romans 7:15). It doesn’t matter the path you’re taking now, whatever you are facing, don’t make the mistake of thinking it’s over with you. You can have a renewed mind if you follow these five steps.
A decision is very important as everything we do starts with a decision in our heart. Decide in your heart that you want to stop the negativity, decide that you want to have the mind of God now. Decide that you want to stop being frustrated, decide you want to be free, decide that you want to follow the only way out of your struggles. The only way is Jesus, decide you want to follow him now. You need to renew the way you think; the mind needs to be renewed so that the thought of starting a new beginning can be there. Ephesians 4:23 “Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.”
Like it’s been said, “Decision without action is a waste of thought.” It is good to decide but when you decide without taking action, it is just a waste of time.
Start to do the things that will make you start a new beginning in Christ. Let God see that you really want to renew your mind, confess your sins and tell Jesus to give you a new heart. The word of God is life, meditate on the word and receive life.
The people you move with defines you a lot, they affect your life, the way you think and the way you do things. They can determine how you will live your life and how far you can go in life. The old friends that causing you pains and drawing you away from God, you must start to evict them from your life now – go for a new relationship, follow the kind of people that can make your life move forward, those that will affect your life positively. Above all these, the greatest friend you can ever have is Jesus Christ. Start a relationship with Christ. He is a friend to all, he will make things work out for you. He has done it for Paul, and yet he is still doing it – stay with Jesus.
The Bible is the Christian manual, the only verified book by God for correction and instruction in righteousness. God himself inspired this book and everything you need to know about God is there. If you read this word everyday, you will have a new mind. The way you think will change and it will reflect on the physical.
Psalm 119:11 says, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.” If you treasure the word of God in your heart, it will guide you, it will let you know what to do and when to do it. The word of God in your heart helps you to avoid sinning against God.
Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” If you really desire to have a renewed mind, then you must not joke with prayer, you must pray to God as the Psalmist did. Only God can give a new mind, only him can clean you and make your heart clean – you need to go to him in prayer and ask him to renew your mind.
It doesn’t really matter where you are coming from, the past doesn’t matter anymore – what you should be thinking about now is how to be transformed from within, how to renew your mind so you can become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
